HOUSING AND TRANSPORT MINISTER VISITING SHETLAND
Scottish Housing and Transport Minister Keith Brown is visiting Shetland today (Thursday), following a request for a meeting by Council Political Leader Josie Simpson.
The minister will discuss transport issues with the council and other stakeholders. Later, he will discuss housing and will hear about the Northern Isles New Energy Solutions (NINES) energy project, meeting with Hjaltland Housing Association and Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD).
Among the transport issues raised by Mr Simpson and up for discussion today are:
- External ferry services, including provision of cover during ship refitting
- The Air Discount Scheme and air travel to the mainland generally
- Shetland's inter-island ferries, including costs, the possibility that fares could be abolished, and the question of fixed links.
The minister is due to meet local press just after midday.
