New Head Teachers at Fair Isle and Cunningsburgh Primary Schools
One of Shetland’s remotest schools, Fair Isle Primary, starts the next session with a new Head Teacher. Nicholas Lucas joins the Fair Isle community from Toronto, Canada, where he has been the principal of a school of 350 pupils. He has a wealth of experience in teaching the full curriculum to children from aged 4 to 14 over many years. He has specific experience in outdoor education and music and is keen to bring his knowledge to further the implementation of Curriculum for Excellence in Fair Isle Primary School. Mr Lucas says: “I am very keen to live and work with all of the community in Fair Isle, and I am as keen to learn about life in Shetland as I am to teach the pupils and work with the staff there.”
Ms Samantha Wishart has been appointed to lead Cunningsburgh Primary School. Ms Wishart originally comes from Shetland and has spent fourteen years working in Dundee. During this time she served as a Hockey Development Officer and a Sports Project Manager before gaining her teaching qualification and training. The bulk of Ms. Wishart’s teaching experience comes from working in large schools in Dundee. Ms Wishart returned to Shetland in January of this year and worked as a teacher in Bressay Primary School before being appointed to her new post. Ms Wishart says that she is absolutely delighted to be offered the post and is looking forwards to working with the pupils, the staff and the parents to ensure the very best outcomes for all.
