Opening Doors across Shetland
The line-up for this year’s Doors Open Day has just been announced, with another set of interesting and quirky locations on offer for the public to look around. Twelve locations are taking part in this year’s event, which runs over two days – 29 and 30 September.
Marjolein Robertson, the Council’s Planning Officer who organises the event: “Doors Open always seems to capture the Shetland public’s imagination. Maybe it’s something about being able to see into places you don’t get to at any other time of the year.”
“New buildings taking part this year include; the Gairdwill Fishing Lodge in Nesting, Shetland’s only example of a restored fishing lodge from the 19th century; an exclusive tour of Mareel with access to parts that are usually closed to the public including the recording studio; Sella Ness Accommodation Block, offering a unique chance to see the entire building from its library to its five-aside football pitch; and Shetland Christian Youth Camp, providing tours of the annual children’s camp with refreshments offered afterwards”.
The full list of buildings taking part is available on the posters advertising the event, and on the Doors Open Days website: http://www.doorsopendays.org.uk . The Planning Service staff are reminding people that bookings can be made by contacting them 01595 744800 (office hours) or e-mail Infrastructure@shetland.gov.uk.
