Press Release

Blueprint Consultation

This is the final week of the Statutory Consultation period for the “Blueprint for Education” primary proposals involving Sandness Primary School, Uyeasound Primary School, Burravoe Primary School and North Roe Primary School.

All responses have to be received by midnight on Sunday 13 March 2011 to be included as part of this statutory consultation process.

Adobe software was chosen for sending electronic forms in to the Schools Service as it is a free tool that’s pre-installed on most computers.  It’s now been pointed out to the Schools Service that some older versions of Adobe Reader are unable to electronically send in the Response Forms.

The Schools Service has therefore published the following instructions on the Shetland Islands Council website, www.shetland.gov.uk

If you are having difficulties submitting your completed Response Form, please update your Adobe Reader, as follows

  • Open Adobe Reader
  • Select help on the top tool bar
  • Select check for updates
  • Then follow the onscreen instructions to download and install

“We’re keen to resolve this issue now that it’s been brought to our attention” Head of Schools Helen Budge said this morning.  “Electronic acknowledgements have been sent to authors of individual e-mail messages received but, unfortunately, not to those electronic Response Forms received.  This has since been rectified – electronic acknowledgements have been issued this morning. The e-mail link was causing some difficulty so a response can also be submitted by sending an e-mail to blueprintforeducation@shetland.gov.uk.  We apologise for any inconvenience or concern this may have caused.  Paper versions of the Response Forms are of course available from the primary schools in Uyeasound, North Roe, Sandness and Burravoe.”

Chair of Services Committee Councillor Betty Fullerton, said today “I’m pleased that the issues which have been raised have been quickly dealt with by the Schools Service.  With only a week left of the consultation period, I’d encourage everyone to take the opportunity to respond as part of this statutory process, to enable views to be heard”.
