No takers yet for Boiler Scrappage Scheme
– Get £400 towards the cost of a new boiler
The Scottish Government’s Energy Saving Trust has renewed calls for people in Shetland to take advantage of their Boiler Scrappage Scheme. With the scheme, eligible households can get £400 towards the cost of a new, more efficient boiler.
There are an estimated 250,000 homes in Scotland that have boilers of the least efficient type (efficiency of less than 70%). By upgrading to an Energy Saving Trust recommended boiler, household heating bills should drop by about a quarter – an average saving of £185 a year or £225 for a three bed semi-detached house.
Chair of the Council’s Social Services Committee Cecil Smith said:
“So far, nobody in Shetland has applied for the Boiler Scrappage Scheme. The weather in Shetland and the general low levels of energy efficiency in our buildings means that we are more vulnerable to rising energy costs and the problems of fuel poverty.
“Installing an efficient heating system is an effective way of reducing your CO2 emissions, not to mention your household energy bills. I would encourage folk to see if they can benefit from this scheme. ”
