Date set for Central Ward By-election
Shetland Islands Council’s Returning Officer Jan Riise has announced that the Central Ward by-election will take place on Thursday 15 December 2011.
Nomination forms will be available from 4 Market Street in Lerwick from Friday 4 November, with the closing date for nominations being Tuesday 22 November.
The new Central Ward representative will replace Iris Hawkins who stood down from the Council on Friday 30 September. The successful candidate will be in post for five months, prior to the Council elections in May.
Residents of the Central Ward are reminded to make sure that they are on the electoral register. If a person’s name does not appear on the Register of Electors, they are not eligible to vote.
