Emily Shaw speaking at the recent sitting of the Scottish Youth Parliament in Stirling

Shetland's Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) Emily Shaw has been selected to be the Scottish Youth Parliament's (SYP's) representative on the Commission on Rural Education.

The Commission was set up after Education Secretary Michael Russell called for a one year moratorium on rural school closures to allow national policy to be reviewed.

It is made up of local authority representatives, head teachers and experts and will be examining all aspects of education in rural areas including the links between education and communities and how the delivery of education can affect the lives of young people in rural areas.
