New Head Teacher Appointments

Children’s Services is pleased to announce the appointment of three new Head Teachers in Shetland schools.

Janette Cowie took up post as Head Teacher of Foula Primary School on 15 August following the resignation of Christine Else the previous Head Teacher. Mrs. Cowie taught in Qatar for four years prior to arriving in Shetland. She was Acting Head teacher of Gilmourton Primary School in South Lanarkshire before her period in the Middle East.

Morag Fox has been appointed as Head Teacher of the school in Scalloway. Mrs Fox began her teaching career in the primary department of Scalloway Junior High in 1991 and was appointed to the post of Principal Teacher there on a job-share basis in 2005. She became Depute Head of the school in May 2010, and then temporary Head Teacher in January 2010.She will take up her established post on 24 October.

Rebekah Gibby will take up post of temporary Head Teacher of Skerries School on 25 October on the retiral of the current Head Teacher, Sheilagh Smith. Prior to moving to Skerries she taught in Ross High School in Tranent, East Lothian. Rebekah and her husband are frequent visitors to Shetland and Skerries through their love of sailing.
