Shetland Box Office aim to hit the 100,000mark this weekend
Since going live on 3 October 2008 Shetland Box Office has sold nearly 97,000 tickets for over 850 performances across Shetland. A total of over 6000 people are registered to buy tickets through the box office system.
At noon on Saturday 19 March the tickets for The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick headline concerts go on sale from Shetland Box Office and it is anticipated that by the end of the day the number of tickets sold through the box office will exceed the 100,000 mark. These tickets will be available in person from the Shetland Box Office in Islesburgh Community Centre, by telephone on 01595 74 5555 and online from www.shetlandboxoffice.org
From 1 February 2011, customers of Shetland Box Office have been able to buy tickets through the online website www.shetlandboxoffice.org and to date more than 250 orders have been made and over 700 tickets have been purchased. This additional means of buying tickets complements the two previous modes of sale and allows people from all over Shetland and further a-field to purchase tickets for events in Shetland.
Customers of Shetland Box Office are advised that if they are planning to purchase their tickets this weekend for the Tall Ships headline concerts online, and then registering with the box office in advance will make their purchase easier on the day.

Florence Grains, the Council’s Spokesperson for Culture and Recreation said, “It’s good to see that Shetland Box Office is doing so well and sold so many tickets. I generally buy my tickets from Islesburgh where the staff are very friendly and helpful, but I am also pleased to see that the online sales are starting to grow as well.”
Gwilym Gibbons, Director of Shetland Arts and Chair of the Shetland Box Office Board commented, “We are delighted by the success of Shetland Box Office and we are looking forward to celebrating 100,000 tickets sold since its launch, it’s a real landmark for the Shetland Box Office partnership”.
Gwilym Gibbons added: “I would personally like to thank the staff of Shetland Islands Council within the Islesburgh Community Centre and our Events Team here at Shetland Arts for the hard work and determination that has led to the success of the Box Office to date, not least the launch of online sales last month. This has been a complex innovative partnership project, which has broken new ground not just in Shetland but also in the UK. The improved customer service and increased access to tickets the Shetland Box Office provides is a credit to all staff involved”.
