Press Release

Shetland Employment Survey 2011

LOCAL business owners are being asked to complete an employment survey being sent out by Shetland Islands Council on Friday 20 May. The survey will collect information on local employment figures, skills and training, imports and exports, future plans, IT uptake and turnover.

The completed surveys will provide a breakdown of the number and types of jobs currently available in Shetland and allow for any trends in industry and geographic area to be monitored.

The results will be used to inform, not only the economic development activity of the Council, but also future community regeneration projects, by highlighting any issues that may be preventing a wider dispersal of jobs in Shetland.

Councillor Alastair Cooper said;

“The last time a survey like this was done was in 2007, so the 2011 results will provide an important snapshot of the situation in Shetland prior to the real effects of the public sector cuts many face in the community. Also, with the superfast broadband project on the go, the results will give a useful picture of IT use in Shetland before the introduction of the fibre optic cable link”

The survey is being carried out by local firm SWC Business Services. It can be completed online from the council’s website at;

http://www.shetland.gov.uk/employerssurvey2011.asp

All completed surveys will be entered into a prize draw for the chance of winning a £250 voucher for IT equipment.
