Shetland Film Selected for Rob Knox Film Festival
Some members of Maddrim at 2009 Screenplay Film Festival.
Shetland's youth based film group Maddrim will be featured at the forthcoming Rob Knox Film Festival in the London Borough of Bexley. Supported by Shetland Islands Council Youth Services and Shetland Arts, the group are well known for their contributions to the local film festival Screenplay.
Their film, “Masks”, has been selected from over 200 applicants and will be screened at The Erith Rowing Club in Bexley on Sunday 5 June.
“Masks” was created for the Screenplay film festival in 2008 and examines the destruction of identity that can result from drug misuse.
The festival was established as a tribute to actor Rob Knox who played Marcus Belby in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” but was murdered shortly after completing his filming.
The festival reflects the aims of the Rob Knox Foundation to support the education of young people in school in the area of citizenship, respect and street violence awareness and to support young people through drama. Full details of the screening are available from the festival’s Facebook page.
Maddrim member Roseanne Watt said:
"It is very exciting to have Maddrim's work showcased in a festival out-with of Shetland. We're all very proud of Masks, so it'll be fascinating to see how the audience in Bexley respond to our film. It'll also be great seeing the work of other young filmmakers and interacting with them. It's such a great opportunity and we are very thankful that the Rob Knox Film Festival chose to screen Masks."
