Trading Standards warning about inheritance scam

The Council's Trading Standards Service is warning people to be wary of inheritance scam letters which have once again been dropping through people's doors.

David Marsh, Trading Standards Service Manager, said:

"We have seen four versions of the same letter already this week - each telling an identical story, but using a different name for a person who is said to have died in China leaving a large fortune but no will.

“This has all the hallmarks of a scam. An offer which is really too good to be true issued to tempt people into handing over some kind of 'administration fee' - which will never be seen again.

“Anyone who receives such a letter should not attempt to reply to the sender, but put it in the bin where it belongs."

General consumer advice is always available at www.shetland.gov.uk/tradingstandards, by calling Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 or Trading Standards on 01595 744887, or in person at the Council's Grantfield office.
