Press Release
Young Scot Tour Begins
Young Scot arrived in Shetland on Monday morning to kick off their five-day tour of secondary schools. They braved the icy roads in the Young Scot Warrior to visit Brae High and Aith Junior High, where they renewed Young Scot cards for S4, 5 and 6, gave out Young Scot handbooks to the S1s, and took workshops with some of the classes.
The tour continues for the rest of this week, and will be stopping off at Baltasound on Tuesday morning, Mid Yell on Tuesday afternoon, Whalsay on Wednesday morning, Anderson High all day Thursday, and Sandwick on Friday morning. Look out for the bright Young Scot Warrior.
There will also be a Young Scot gig for those between Primary 7 to Secondary 4 at the Sandveien Neighbourhood Centre on Wednesday 7 December. Come along and support the youth bands performing.
Jamie Dunlop, Engagement and Participation Officer at Young Scot, said:
"Working across the country, meeting and engaging with a range young people is one of the most exciting and important elements of Young Scot's work.
“This week in Shetland, we've had the opportunity to meet, engage and listen to the needs of hundreds of young people. We'd like to thank Shetland Islands Council Youth Services and the local schools for organising such a fantastic trip. Outreach work such as this, is essential to help us to continue to shape and tailor our services to meet the needs of young people in Shetland and across the country."
Young Scot is the national youth information and citizenship charity. They provide young people, aged 11 - 26, with a mixture of information, ideas and incentives to help them become confident, informed and active citizens.
