Youthies Got Talent

Members of the Sound Youth Club at the talent show

Members of the Sound Youth Club held a “Youthies Got Talent” competition on Thursday (17 November) in aid of Children in Need.

Young people came up with the idea and were supported by Youth Work staff to organise the event. Performances ranged from a piano playing duo with a twist (one member of the duo playing with her legs behind her head ) to a dance act from junior member, 8 year old Jacob Robertson. Each performer had to face the judging panel, made up of Ian Burke (Sound Treasurer) June Porter (Community Learning and Development Officer for Lerwick) and Carla Sandison (young person).

Winner on the night was Ellie Arthur from Lerwick who sung Adele’s “Someone Like You”.

Youth club members raised £71.00 by holding a raffle for parents who came along. Youth Development Worker Aimee Barclay was amazed by the talent on display. She said:

“We had such a diverse range of acts on the night: Dance Acts, “slob” acts, comedy acts, singers and musicians. All the young people did so well and I think the whole experience has been a real confidence boost for everybody involved. One of the highlights on the night was definitely the boy’s comedy act which was concluded by their very own rendition of pretty women. I think there was great relief from the young people that the judges on the night weren’t as mean as they are on the real show.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff and young people for all their hard work and well done to all the acts on the night.”
