Get out and play at Playday 2012
Playday is the national day for play, traditionally celebrated on the first Wednesday in August. Now in its 25th year, it’s the biggest event of its kind in the UK. Last year, over 900 parents and children turned out for the free event at the Gilbertson Park games hall and grounds.
Playday has been running in Lerwick for 10 years, and on Wednesday 1st August there’ll be the usual wide programme of activities for pre-school and primary school kids to enjoy.
The SIC’s Bruce Family Centre team has been working alongside staff from other Council departments, agencies and volunteers to deliver another fun-filled day of activities and experiences to celebrate children’s right to play. The event takes place at the Gilbertson Park from 11am - 4pm.
The catchphrase for Playday 2012 is Get out and play! – so they’re hoping for good weather as there’s plenty of outdoor activities planned. Families can enjoy cricket, football, and golf, as well as compete in their mini Olympics, and much more besides.
There’s also a variety of activities and experiences indoors for children and parents/carers, with messy play and arts’n' crafts, the chance to look inside the Dark Dome, or just relax and enjoy a story. No need to sign up ahead of the day – but children must be accompanied by a parent, carer, or responsible adult.
