Bressay Sports Field Gets Funding
Yesterdays meeting of Shetland Islands Council’s Services Committee agreed to award a grant of £85,180 to Bressay Sports Club. This award represents the final piece of the funding package, which will enable the construction of a community sports field at Fullaburn in Bressay to go ahead in the spring of next year.
The project has been an aspiration of the Bressay community since way back in the early 1990’s and has been driven forward by the Bressay Sports Club. Over £200,000 of external funding has already been secured for the project from the Scottish Governments Rural Priorities Scheme, and through Sport Scotland’s Cashback for Sports Facilities fund. The Bressay community has undertaken an extensive fundraising campaign over the last year and have raised in excess of £12,000 including generous support from Bressay Community Council.
Chair of Bressay Sports Club Kenny Groat said after yesterday’s decision: “I’m delighted we now have all the funds in place. The community is now looking forward to seeing the project progress on site in the spring.”
