Shetland Sports Week prize draw winner
SIC’s Sports and Leisure service ran a prize draw at Shetland Sports Week 2012 and were delighted to be able to present Tim Fraser from Mid Yell with his prize this week.
3,035 folk took part in last year’s Shetland Sports Week. To enter into the draw participants had to attend four activities during the week and complete their loyalty card.
Tim’s prize is a free return trip to Edinburgh for two people, donated by Loganair. He was also offered two complimentary tickets to a national sports event, provided through funding from Event Scotland.
Louise Jamieson, one of SIC’s Active Schools Coordinators, says: “I’m really happy for Tim and Tammie, and very grateful to everyone who took part in both Shetland Sports Week and the loyalty card draw. We would also like to thank Loganair for their generous prize donation.
“We are hoping to secure further funding this year to hold another Shetland Sports Week and early indications from Event Scotland, who funded the event as part of their ‘Games for Scotland’ programme, are that events this year will celebrate ‘one year to go’ until the start of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. This would suggest a summer programme allowing us to work with outdoor sports such as football, hockey, horse riding, sailing, archery and many more.”
Commenting on his win, Tim Fraser, says: “I can't believe I've won this fantastic prize, I'm chuffed to bits! My wife and I have chosen to attend the Scotland v Wales 6 Nations rugby match in March.
"I think Sports Week is a great event in the Shetland calendar as it gives locals all over the islands a chance to try out activities for free. It was great to be able to bring the kids along and see them enjoying themselves.”
