Seasonal Grass Cutting Service (for Non SIC Housing Tenants)

In the past, Shetland Amenity Trust has provided a Seasonal Grass Cutting Service on behalf of the Council and funded by the Charitable Trust.  It has now ben agreed that this is not part of the core work of the Amenity Trust.  The Amenity Trust is therefore no longer responsible for providing this service.

Shetland Charitable Trust have decided to no longer fund the seasonal grass cutting service in the coming year.  However, Trustees have asked the Council make sure that anyone with particular needs will not have the service taken away from them.

The Council's Social Work Service will aim to provide a service to those most in need through the work done as part of supervised community service orders.  In order to ensure that the limited amount of time available is targeted at those most in need, it is essential that people who wish to have this service provided in 2004, provide information regarding their needs and an assurance that there is no-one else whom they could ask to cut their grass for them, for example, other family members living in the same household or nearby, or any friends or neighbours who are willing and able to help.

Anyone who is unable through age or disability to cut their grass and has no-one whom they can ask to cut the grass for them, should write to the Social Work Service, Criminal Justice Unit, giving details of their needs and circumstances.  If they already receive services through Social Work they should confirm that they agree that the assessment of needs currently held by the Social Work Service can be used in this context.  Applications will be priorised according to needs identified.
