New Ferries for Yell Sound

Shetland Islands Council expect to take possession of the first of the new ferries for Yell Sound within the next few days.  Subject to final approvals, m.v. "Daggri" will be handed over by Northern Shipyard in Gdansk this weekend.

The new vessel is scheduled to leave Gdansk for Shetland over the weekend and to arrive in Yell Sound sometime towards the end of next week.

It is planned to hold and "Open to Visitors" at Ulsta a couple of days after arrival in Shetland to allow all who are interested to see round the vessel.  Details of this will be advertised on local radio.

There will be a period of crew training, trials, etc. over the coming weeks.  It is hoped that m.v. "Daggri" will enter service between Toft and Ulsta during the week starting 19 July 2004.

The second new ferry, m.v, "Dagalien" is scheduled to be handed over in Gdansk during week commencing 19 July 2004, arriving in Shetland about a week later and entering service week commencing 2 August 2004.

Both vessels are being financed by SLAP and will be leased by Ferry Services.
