Launch of Consultation on Disability

Today sees the publication of a draft Disability Strategy for Shetland.  The Strategy document has emerged after a year's work combining all agencies involved in the provision of services to people with disabilities in Shetland.  The group which met to produce the Strategy has involved users of services, carers and staff from Disability Shetland since it's inception.

It is hoped that these consultation processes will stimulate active discussion among people with disabilities in Shetland and therefore the final document produced will reflect the wide range of views about current services, improvements which may be needed and priorities for the future.

Everyone involved in the work of this Strategy is keen to make sure that we are able to use all this information to form decisions and the allocation of resources in the next 5 to 10 years.  Copies of the document can be obtained from Community Services, Shetland Library, Disability Shetland and all Health Centres.  Alternatively please telephone 01595 744070 or e-mail disability.strategy@sic.shetland.gov.uk for a copy of the Strategy.  For further information please contact Tom McIntosh at Disability Shetland on 692196, Steve Jack - Director of Patient Services, NHS Shetland on 743068 or Jacqui Watt, Executive Director - Community Services, Shetland Islands Council on the above number.
