Urban Rodeo Tour - Scottish Road Safety Campaign
To promote Road Safety in Shetland a Theatre Group, sponsored by the Scottish Road Safety Campaign, is visiting Shetland to present a play called Urban Rodeo.
The play has been specifically targeted at the 55+ able-bodied road user. It is designed to raise awareness of issues affecting drivers, as they grow older. Drivers over the age of 65 are involved in as many road crashes as young drivers based on per mile driven. In 1998, 2493 people over the age of 60 were killed of injured in road accidents in Scotland. Nearly half the numbers of pedestrian fatalities each year are senior citizens.
The play is centred on Jack Dawson (57), his wife Lesley and her ageing mother, Davina Mackay (85). Jack and Lesley also have a 10-year-old granddaughter, Janie. The play consists of 40 minutes of laughs as Jack pits his wits against his (dearest) mother-in-law in a battle of driving skills.
The play will be performed in various locations throughout Shetland next week.
There is a performance at the Town Hall for the general public on Monday 1st November 2004 at 8pm. Entrance is free.
Anyone who is an active road user is invited to attend.
