Director of Shetland College and Train Shetland

Prof. John McClatchey, BSc, MBA, PhD

 

Following an interview on Friday 26 November, the Board of Management for Shetland College and Train Shetland decided to appoint John McClatchey as Director.

John is currently an Environmental Consultant and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham.   Previously he was Head of the School of Environmental Science at the University College Northampton for 11 years, and has held a variety of posts at the University of Manchester and University of Portsmouth.

John was born in Dumfries, and brought up in Dumfries and Perth, gaining his first degree from Edinburgh University.   He is married with two daughters.   Both John and his wife swam for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games, and one of his daughters, who swims for Scotland, was the second youngest member of the British Olympic swimming team at the recent games.   Her next major event will be the Commonwealth Games in 2006.

Mr Drew Ratter, Chairman of the Board of Management, said "this is an important appointment of a high calibre candidate; John brings with him a wide range of academic and managerial experience.   The Board looks forward to working with John in developing Shetland College and Train Shetland and ensuring that the education and training provided meets the needs of the local and business community, both now and in the future".
