Prohibition of Scallop Gathering in Weisdale Voe

Environmental Health section of Infrastructure Services Department today, as instructed by the Food Standards Agency, issued a Temporary Prohibition Order, made under Regulation 7 of the Food Safety (Fishery Product and Live Shellfish) (Hygiene) Regulations 1998, following receipt of sample results indicating high levels of amnesic shellfish poison (ASP) toxin in king scallops.

Laboratory tests detected ASP in King Scallops ( pecten maximus ) caught in Weisdale Voe and was found to be unsafe for human consumption.

The collection of King Scallops by hand, boat or other method is prohibited within Weisdale Voe (area of water north of line drawn between Russa Ness (HU 363 464) and Binna Ness (HU 373 425) until further notice.
