Senior Social Care Worker Represents SIC at Young Scotland Programme

The Young Scotland Programme is an exciting innovative programme open to young people living in Scotland between the ages of 19 and 29.  It's aim is to bring people from a variety of geographic, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds and expose them to the most original contemporary thinking and enlarge their social awareness by enhancing their understanding of the problems of society.  Delegates of the Progamme will be involved in over 60 hours of debate, dialogue, research, discussion and intellectual challenge.

This year Shetland Islands Council's delegate is Sandra Gair, Senior Social Care Worker at Annsbrae.  On being selected for the programme, Sandra said; "This is a good opportunity to test my own values and beliefs in debate and to practice my skills in evaluation and communication while discussing a range of current topical issues with other Young Scotland delegates".

Marketing Graduate Trainee, Robert Lowes attended the programme last year where he was awarded Runner Up Speaker of the Year and won a place at the Young Unite Kingdom Programme, held in London.  He has been asked by to Pitlochry this week to lead debate as a Fellow of the Institute of Contemporary Scotland.

Many of Scotland's most influential policy makers and opinion formers will contribute to the programme as speakers.  Patrons of the programme include Magnus Magnusson, Patrick Moore, Anna Ford, John McCarthy and Terry Waite.

Sandra and Robert are due to return to from Pitlochry this weekend.
