The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, which comes into force on 1 January 2005 provides the public with a right to information, including information on tendering, contracts and related matters, held by Shetland Islands Council.
Contractors and Suppliers who have done, are doing, or intend to do business with the Council, whether by way of contact or in a tendering process, are given notice that where a request under this Act is received, the Council may be required to disclose information by law. That may include information submitted by you.
This Council is currently establishing procedures to deal with Freedom of Information requests. Whilst intending to maintain integrity and meet the new obligations under the Act the emphasis regarding procurement information will be to maintain good business relationships between the Council and contractors.
