East Asia Tsunami disaster
Shetland Islands Council plans to donate £100,000 to the Emergency Appeal for victims of the East Asia Tsunami disaster.
Convener Sandy Cluness said today that "even Shetland as an island community dominated by the forces of the sea finds it impossible to comprehend the scale of the devastation and this is an initial planned response by the Council on behalf of people of Shetland to the overwhelming tragedy suffered by coastal and island communities in East Asia. I feel sure that all Shetlanders will generously contribute individually in our time honoured way to their chosen charities involved and we will in future examine what else the Council and its related bodies can do.
