National Carers Week 13-19 June 2005
It is estimated that there are six million unpaid carers in the UK.
Family and friends working as unpaid carers provide essential support to an increasing number of frail older people and people with disabilities in our community.
The theme of this year’s Carers Week is “work, rest and play” to highlight the right of every carer to have the opportunity to lead fulfilling lives of their own, whether through work, study or leisure activities. Many carers are not aware of the services available to them and National Carers Week provides an opportunity to highlight the vital role of carers and the range of local support services.
There will be a number of events taking place across Shetland during Carers Week, starting with “Cream Teas” at Taing House, Lerwick, on Saturday 11 June from 2.00 till 4.00 p.m.
All Social Work offices and care centres have information about services available to support carers and can provide up to date information on events for Carers Week in your area.
