"Going for Green Day" - Saturday 7 May 2005

Main Hall Clickimin Leisure Centre: 9.00am to 5.00pm

Shetland Islands Council’s Waste Services are holding a second Compost bin and Garden Day event under the “Going for Green” banner at Clickimin on Saturday.

We will have on sale compost bins – wooden, plastic and tumblers – for just £5.00 to £15.00.  This is a considerable saving on the list price and is supported by Scottish Executive Strategic Waste Fund money to help Shetland meet its waste prevention targets.

The Shetland Environmental Pledge will also be launched at a formal signing ceremony on 7th May at 10.00am by Tavish Scott, MSP and by Morgan Goodlad, Chief Executive of Shetland Islands Council.  Individuals and local businesses can sign the Environmental Pledge giving a demonstration of their commitment to protecting and enhancing the Shetland environment.

There will also be supporting stands selling garden materials – plants, trees, slabs, ornaments, decking, bird tables etc.

General environmental information stands will also be available – from energy information to RSPB and SNH.

Fair trade issues will be featured with a number of local stockists of Fair Trade products offering samples and goods for sale.

Come along and raise your environmental awareness and pick up a bargain at the same time.
