Investment Programme to Support Community Based Waste Solutions to Visit Shetland

Support staff from a £5 million investment programme to support Community based waste solutions will be visiting Shetland 21 –23 July.

The Increase Programme is a 5 million investment scheme set up by the Scottish Executive to support community based organisations in the delivery of sustainable waste management projects such as composting, furniture recycling, electronic resuse/recycling or clothing reuse/recycling projects.

The programme will run up to March 2006.  It offers funding of between £5,000 to £200,000 for projects based on waste recycling or reuse.  The funding would cover the purchase of plant and equipment and the employment of personnel.

The Increase programme is being delivered in partnership with the Community Recycling Network for Scotland (CRNS) and in Shetland with the Council’s Waste Services.

Anyone from a community based organisation who thinks that they can tap into the funding on offer is welcome to meet with project support staff locally and discuss their proposals.  Staff will be available as follows:-

Unst - Baltasound Hall - 21 July - 10 –12 am

Yell - Mid Yell Hall - 21 July - 3 – 5 pm

Brae - Brae Hall - 22 July - 10 –12 am

Walls - Walls Public Hall - 22 July - 2 – 4 pm

Lerwick - Islesburgh Community Centre, Room 12. - 23 July - 10 – 12 am

 

Staff will  be available during these times to discuss waste prevention issues and to advise businesses of free audits available through the Council and Envirowise on their waste and energy usage.
