Urafirth Primary School Nursery Class was inspected in April 2005 as part of the integrated inspection programme by the Care Commission and HM Inspectorate of Education. The report identifies strengths in the environment for learning, the quality of children's experiences and the support provided for children and families.
The key strengths identified in the report were:
- The bright and welcoming environment
- Effective interaction between staff and children to develop children's confidence
- Very good programmes in emotional, personal and social development, communication and language, knowledge and understanding of the world and physical development and movement
- Very good support for children and families
- Hardworking and committed staff team
- Effective, supporting leadership from the Head Teacher
The programmes for developing children's knowledge were judged to be very good and this is supported by a range of visits out of school, and visitors to the nursery. Programmes for emotional, personal and social development as well as for communication and language and physical development were also judged to be very good. Staff were commended for their kind and caring approach to meeting the needs of individual children.
As an action point, the school has only been asked to continue to develop their planning and assessment of children's progress.
