Launch - "Safer Shetland Action Line - Making Shetland Even Safer"
The Shetland Community Safety Partnership is launching a new initiative to crackdown on crime and nuisance throughout the Isles.
Crime and nuisance such as drug dealing, antisocial behaviour, drink-driving, bullying, abandoned cars, litter and dog fouling can affect the whole community, and are being tackled by a variety of agencies.
The Safer Shetland Action Line, spearheaded by the Community Safety Partnership, aims to encourage local people to be the eyes and ears of the neighbourhood by giving them access to an Action Line where they can pass on information concerning crime and nuisance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in complete confidentiality. There is also a text facility and a PO Box address for those who don’t wish to call. The information will then be passed onto the relevant agency to deal with, making a real difference on the ground.
Funding for the Safer Shetland Action Line has been allocated for the next three years and it is hoped that the Shetland community will begin to reap the benefits quickly.
Area Commander for Shetland, and Chair of the Community Safety Partnership, Chief Inspector Andy Cowie said: “Crime and nuisance affects everyone in some way and it creates the wrong impression of an area. This initiative will give people more ways to pass on information to community safety agencies to help make Shetland even safer.”
Anyone wishing to pass on any information concerning crime and nuisance can use the Safer Shetland Action Line by calling 01595 694544 or by texting 07921 00 99 22. A PO Box address will also be available shortly.
This initiative will also enable those with hearing difficulties to interact with community safety agencies via text or letter.
Ends.
