New Arts Development Agency - Trustees to be Appointed

In June this year, Shetland Islands Council agreed to set-up a new Arts Development Agency by amalgamating the services of Shetland Arts Trust and the arts elements of Islesburgh Trust.

A Project Board has now been established under the chairmanship of George Smith of the SIC’s Community Development Services to manage and co-ordinate this process.  Plans are well underway to ensure that this new Agency will be fully operational by 1 April 2006.

A crucial part of this exercise is the appointment of ten individuals to a new Board of Trustees.  For the new Agency to be up and running by the agreed date, new board members have to be sought now.  This is to allow sufficient time for the new Trustees to familiarise themselves with the full scope of their duties and responsibilities, and undertake any training that might be necessary.

This represents an opportunity for all those with an interest in the arts to be fully involved in shaping their future.  The Council hopes to be able to attract people with a broad range of skills and knowledge, and from a variety of interests and backgrounds.

The closing date for applications is Friday 21 October 2005.  Details and an application form can be obtained from SIC’s Community Development Services at Hayfield House.

Ends.
