Baltasound Junior High School, Nursery Class
Baltasound Junior High School Nursery Class was inspected in November 2005 as part of the integrated inspection programme by the Care Commission and HM Inspectorate of Education. The report identifies strengths in the environment for learning, the quality of children’s experiences and the support provided for children and families.
The key strengths identified were:
- The bright, attractive and stimulating nursery environment and the good range of resources available to the children
- The very good quality of staff interaction and the value staff placed on children’s contributions
- Children’s motivation, levels of concentration and enthusiasm for learning
- The very good programmes in all five key aspects of the curriculum for 3-5 year olds
- The commitment of the Head Teacher, the Depute Head Teacher and the nursery staff to the continuous improvement of the nursery and its work
The inspection team also noted the quality of organisation and planning which provided for stimulating, high quality, play experiences.
As well as this, they highlighted the strong partnership with parents and effective arrangements for transition into Primary One. They commended the management team on their arrangements for monitoring and reviewing the work of the nursery.
As a result of the high quality of pre-school education being provided in Baltasound Junior High School, the team made only one recommendation for improvement which was to continue to implement new planning procedures.
The Education Service is delighted with the report and acknowledges the commitment and dedication of the staff at the school in providing a very high quality pre-school education to the children of Unst.
