Inter Island Air Services
Following on from the recent tendering exercises Shetland Islands Council is not yet satisfied that it finds itself in a position to award a contract for provision of the ongoing service.
Discussions have been held this week with the current operators of the service Loganair and agreement is being reached to extend their current contract for four months from 1st April 2006 thus providing service continuity over the summer period and allowing necessary time required to undertake the re-tendering of the service.
In addition the Council are continuing to evaluate the options regarding providing this service in a best value way including the option to lease an aircraft with the view to reducing operating costs.
