Litter and Dog Fouling Issues
Following the reports in the media in the last weeks over litter and dog fouling issues, Shetland Islands Council Environmental Health Service has advised that the first dog fouling fixed penalty notice has been issued under the Dog Fouling (Scotland) Regulations to a Lerwick resident after a member of Environmental Health staff witnessed the dog owner failing to clean up the dog’s faeces. The Fixed Penalty Notice requires the owner to pay the Council £40. The Service hopes that the publicity around the proactive enforcement campaign encourages all dog owners to act responsibly so that the need to issue further notices is minimised.
Environmental Health has issued 14 Litter fixed penalty notices. The service is particularly concerned over the amount of littering from vehicles and will be targeting resources in this area. Again the Service requests everyone’s help to keep Shetland clean and tidy.
Ends.
