Inspection of the Little Tikes Playgroup

Little Tikes Playgroup was inspected in January, 2006 as part of the integrated inspection programme by the Care Commission and HMIe.

The HM Inspector found that the playgroup, operating in the Girlsta Methodist Church Hall, provided warm, secure and well-maintained accommodation.

Staff had developed positive relationships with the children.  Key strengths included a warm, caring environment which encouraged children to be happy and relaxed.  There was good teamwork of staff and a supportive committee.

There were good programmes covering all of the five key stages of child development and the Inspector particularly emphasised those in place for emotional, personal and social development, knowledge and understanding of the world and physical development and movement.

The Education Service will be working with the pre-school centre to prepare an action plan to take forward recommendation for improvement.  No requirements resulted from this inspection.

The committee and staff are all pleased that their hard work and team effort is resulting in a playgroup which is enjoyed by the children and is appreciated by the parents, local schools and inspectors.  Full copies of the report can be obtained from the HMIe website: www.hmie.gov.uk.
