Inspection of Scalloway Playgroup
Scalloway Playgroup was inspected in January 2006 as part of the integrated inspection programme by the Care Commission and HMIe.
The playgroup, in Scalloway youth centre, provided a very secure, spacious and stimulating learning environment. Children were very confident and enthusiastic.
A key strength was the very high quality of interaction between children and staff. There were very good programmes in emotional, personal and social development, knowledge and understanding of the world and expressive and aesthetic development. Both the staff team and the management were praised for their commitment.
The playgroup is now working to address areas recommended for improvement including programmes in communication and language and physical development and movement. Planning should identify next steps in children’s learning. A system would be further developed to monitor and evaluate practice in the playroom.
The Education Service are pleased that HMIe have recognised the high quality of provision in this established group.
