Shetland Islands Council Launches Energy from the Edge Conference Website

Shetland Islands Council is pleased to announce the launch of the Energy from the Edge Conference website, www.energyfromtheedge.com.

The Energy from the Edge Conference will be held in Shetland from 12 to 14 September 2007, focusing on the key themes of Sustainable Energy, Large Scale Resource Development in Remote Communities, Labour Market Mobility, Prosperity Through Identity and Governance.

The Energy from the Edge Conference is being organised by Shetland Islands Council in partnership with the North Atlantic Forum (NAF), North Atlantic Co-operation (NORA), the International Society for the Study of Marginal Regions (ISSMR) and HIE Shetland.

The Convener of Shetland Islands Council, Sandy Cluness, said “holding the Energy From the Edge Conference is an excellent opportunity to enhance Shetland’s relationship with our North Atlantic partners whilst building on our shared knowledge of renewable energy.”

The conference is expected to attract over 100 international delegates from around the world from places such as Greenland, Canada, Sweden, Norway and Iceland, and from today delegates can register online for this event to secure their place.

This conference overlaps with the Energy from the Edge Symposium on renewable energy in isolated locations, held in Shetland between 11 to 13 September.  Indeed, on 12 September the symposium findings will be delivered to the Conference at an opening plenary session where both Symposium and Conference delegates will be in attendance.
