Head of Children's Services
Two new Head Teachers have been appointed in the North Mainland. Angela Grant was appointed last month to Urafirth Primary School and Ian Perry is the new Head Teacher of Olnafirth and Mossbank primary schools.
Mrs Grant has lived in Shetland since 2004 after leaving her post as Head Teacher of Shortlees Nursery School in East Ayrshire. She has also worked as a lecturer in Childcare and Education, a Home Visiting teacher as well as Nursery and Primary class teacher in a number of schools in Glasgow, Lanark and throughout Shetland.
Ian Perry joined the Education Service in 2005 as the Manager of two teams - the Behaviour Support Base in Lerwick and the New Community Schools team in Brae. He has worked in nursery , primary and secondary schools in North Yorkshire and Staffordshire.
Jim Reyner, Quality Improvement Manager for the North Mainland, expressed his satisfaction that all three schools can now look forward to a period of stability. He expressed his gratitude to the members of staff who had been carrying out the Head Teachers’ duties in these schools for a much longer period than had been anticipated - Robyn Robinson in Urafirth, Madge Peters in Olnafirth and Tina Johnston in Mossbank.
Olnafirth and Mossbank are the latest schools to take part in shared management, while Urafirth was included in the consultation on shared management in North Mainland that resulted in the retention of a “teaching head”.
Ends.
