Shetland Welcome Point
A new project called Shetland Welcome Point will open this week in Lerwick.
This project is a social drop-in point for Speakers of Other Languages. A place where they can come together, get advice and information on local issues, practice English, access computers and the Internet and meet new people.
This project came about as a result of a piece of research carried out by the SIC’s Policy Unit which indicated that migrant workers could feel isolated and sometimes need support to access information and services.
The Welcome Point is at 4 Pitt Lane in Lerwick and it will be open on Thursdays from 6 to 8 pm and Sundays from 2 to 5 pm. Adult Learning staff are supporting the project and it is hoped that Shetland folk will volunteer to provide support and information about local services and events. If you are interested you should contact Nati Aldazabal at Adult Learning, the Old Library Centre for more information. (Telephone 01595 743888)
Shetland Welcome Point will be opened on Thursday 21st. To celebrate, a light buffet and refreshments will be provided.
