Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006
School Boards will cease to exist on 31 July 2007. The statutory body that will represent parents in each of Shetland’s schools will be The Parent Council. This is a group of parents, school staff and community representatives who are able to operate more flexibly than the previous School Board. Parents from each school have been busy working on a constitution that would serve the needs of each school best. Every parent with a child at school will shortly be receiving a letter that details the proposed main features of its Parent Council constitution.
It is important that parents complete the page they receive and send it back in the envelope provided. It will not be assumed that a nil response means acceptance.
If any parent wishes to read the full constitution, this is available from their child’s school or from the Schools Service at Hayfield House, tel: 01595 744000.
For more information, please contact Maggie Spence, Quality improvement Officer, Schools Service, tel: 01595 744085.
