New Head Teacher appointments to Hamnavoe and Tingwall Primary Schools
The Schools Service recently made two more appointments to the remaining vacant Head Teacher posts in the Central mainland schools cluster.
Mrs Christine Johnston has been appointed to the post of Head Teacher of Hamnavoe Primary School and takes up her position on 9 January, at the start of the new term. Mrs Johnston taught in England before coming to Shetland in 2005. Last session, she was Acting Head at Mossbank Primary School. Mrs Johnston therefore brings important school-management experience to her new job.
Mrs Cheryl Spofforth has been appointed to the Head’s post at Tingwall Primary School and also takes up her post at the beginning of next term. Like Mrs Johnston, she taught in England before moving to Shetland and also has school-management experience within Shetland when she was Acting Head Teacher at Whiteness Primary School during a maternity leave.
Jim Reyner, Quality Improvement Manager with the SIC’s Schools Service, welcomed both appointments, adding that Tingwall and Hamnavoe had high-calibre new Head Teachers who would continue the excellent work of their predecessors.
Ends.
