Shetland Sailing Looks to the Future

Sailors in Shetland are invited to a meeting to discuss the future of sailing in the isles.   The meeting will take place in Delting Boating Club on Tuesday 21st November at 6.30pm and is being co-ordinated by RYA Scotland Development Manager, Jane Scott.

Ms Scott, a regular visitor to Shetland, can see a vibrant future for the sport locally -  “Shetland is an amazing sailing venue, with huge potential for development.  Now is a good time to start looking forward and create an action plan  that allows the sailing community in Shetland to potentially access extra resources”.

The meeting aims to be as interactive as possible to encourage debate and discussion.    Ms Scott again commented – “All the clubs and individual sailors should be involved in the creation of the long term vision for sailing in Shetland.  The evening will provide an opportunity for discussion, questions and feedback, that should result in the creation of an outline plan to meet local and national priorities.“

The discussions are a key part of the RYA Scotland Club Development Strategy and are also supported by the Sport & Leisure Service of Shetland Islands Council. Sports Development Officer, Bob Kerr commented – “Sailing is a very strong sport locally and there is a wealth of sailing talent and expertise throughout Shetland.   The purpose of this meeting is to focus some of the energy and ambition of local sailors into a clear direction for the sport.  I would urge anyone with an interest in sailing to come along.”

Anyone with any questions or thoughts about the meeting, can contact Jane Scott on either 07770 604234, or on 0131 317 4610, or by email: jane.scott@rya-online.net ; or by letter to: RYA Scotland, Caledonia House, 1 Redheughs Rigg, South Gyle, Edinburgh EH12 9DQ.
