Gaer Box Launch
A new dialect resource pack will be launched during Word Play by the Shetland Islands Council and Shetland ForWirds, this weekend.
The launch of the Gaer Box follows the highly successful Dialect Ditty Box launched last year for pre-school.
The new resource pack contains dialect resources for primary 1 to 3 with the aim to support and encourage dialect activity in schools. The material included in the pack is a mixture of both new and traditional poems, stories and songs. With each piece there are activity suggestions and additional supporting materials. A CD featuring local artists is also provided as an extra resource for children to use themselves and to support teaching staff.
The pack has benefited from the input of a diverse team of volunteers and professionals including teachers, writers, artists and musicians. Their contribution has ensured the Gaer Box meets the aims of the Curriculum and is appealing to children.
The Dialect Gaer Box will be distributed to all Primary Schools in Shetland in the coming months.
The launch will take place in Islesburgh Community Centre (Room 16), on Saturday 6th September 2008 at 12.45 pm during Word Play, courtesy of Shetland Arts.
