Inspection of Pre-School Provision, Lerwick Pre-School Group
Lerwick Pre-School Group was inspected in September 2007 as part of the integrated inspection programme by the Care Commission and HM Inspectorate of Education.
As a result of the inspection a number of very important strengths were identified:
- Ways in which staff had organised and developed the playroom and outdoor area to support children’s learning
- Staff’s use of questions and discussions when interacting with children to support and extend their learning
- Children’s progress in all aspects of the curriculum
- Well-behaved and motivated children
- Partnership between staff, children, parents and the local community
- The effectiveness of the managers in leading the nursery team
Inspectors evaluated all aspects of the children’s experiences as very good or excellent and noted that staff prided very good support for all of the children to ensure all of their needs were effectively met. Parents were kept very well informed of the work of the group and effective procedures were in place to support children’s transition to primary school. There were strong positive links with the community which enhanced the learning experiences available for the children.
Leadership of the group was evaluated as very good. The three joint managers were praised for their commitment and the positive relationships they had fostered with staff, parents and children.
Inspectors have recommended that the group develop their procedures for sharing information on children’s progress with parents and their procedures for monitoring the work of the service.
The Schools Service is delighted with the report and the high quality of the pre-school education consistently delivered by this partner provider group.
