Appointments to Shetland Islands Council
The Shetland Islands Council held its statutory meeting this morning to appoint Members and office bearers to its various Committees, sub-Committees and Boards. A summary of the main appointments is shown below:
- Councillor Sandy Cluness was elected unopposed to serve as Convener for another term.
- Councillor for Lerwick North, Allan Wishart, was appointed Chair of the Infrastructure Committee, with Councillor Iris Hawkins as Vice-Chair.
- Councillor for Lerwick South, Leslie Angus, was appointed Chair of the Services Committee, with new Councillor Betty Fullerton as Vice-Chair.
At the last Council it was decided that either the Chair of the Infrastructure or Services Committees would also fulfil the role of Vice-Convener. However, a decision was taken at the meeting today to defer appointment of the Vice-Convener until the next Council meeting on 4th July.
