Shetland Real Nappy Week
The Shetland Islands Council’s Waste Services Section is taking part in the 11th nation-wide Real Nappy Week, running from the 11th-18th of March.
Anybody interested in real nappies can pick up information from displays at local health centres, which will be there all week. If people have any queries relating to real nappies there will be an informal drop-in question and answer session with the Brae Mother and Toddlers Group at the Brae Youth Centre on Thursday the 15th of March between 10am-12pm and an information stall at the Toll Clock Shopping Centre in the morning of Saturday the 17th of March. This gives people the chance to come along and see the different types of nappy available and ask questions about their use.
There are many stories about complicated folds, soaking and pins surrounding real nappies but this is no longer the case. Real nappies now come in a range of easy to use shapes and can be fixed with Velcro or poppers and these are becoming a popular choice with new parents. There is a large and varied range of different styles of nappies out there.
The SIC have been encouraging the use of real nappies for several years and presently operate a scheme offering money back to parents who use these instead of disposables.
