Sheep Identification Ear Tags

Environmental Health has been contacted by a number of crofters about the new Regulations regarding sheep eartags. Clarification has been sought from SEERAD who have confirmed that any sheep tagged after the 5th July 2006 should be tagged with an ETAS (Ear Tag Allocation System) registered eartag.  Any eartags purchased before December 2005 are therefore obsolete and should be replaced with ETAS registered eartags.

Crofters may have received information or been advised by ETAS that older tags are still acceptable; this advice applies in England and Wales but does not apply in Scotland.

For any further advice on the new Sheep Identification Regulations contact Environmental Health on 01595 744800 or SEERAD on 01595 695054.
