Genuine Proof of Age Cards - Look for the Hologram
Shetland Islands Council is reminding licensees, retailers and young people that a genuine Young Scot National Entitlement Card can be recognised by the PASS (Proof of Age Standards Scheme) hologram. This shows that the card has been properly issued under the strict controls put in place to ensure that the scheme is secure, so that sellers of age-restricted goods such as alcohol and tobacco can have confidence in the card’s authenticity.
Similarly, a genuine photocard driving licence has holographic and other security features.
Cecil Smith, Chairperson of the Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee, encourages licensees and retailers to contact Trading Standards if they need advice to help them ensure that they comply with the laws restricting the supply of certain products to young people. “The Proof of Age Standards Scheme is there to help traders to do the right thing so that young people are protected from products which could do them harm.”
Any young person who doesn’t have a Young Scot National Entitlement Card can apply for one by contacting Dialogue Youth & Shetland Young Scot at Islesburgh Community Centre in Lerwick (phone 01595 744475 or 744471, or email DialogueYouth@sic.shetland.gov.uk).
