Press Release
22nd August 2012
Heavy rain has closed several roads in Shetland this morning
09.57 - Roads engineers say the Black Gaet is now open, there are traffic lights in operation at the Scord Quarry, and the Brindister Road south of Gulberwick is open through both lanes. They advise motorists to drive with care through Gulberwick.
09.42 - One lane of the A970 at the south end of Gulberwick is now passable, and engineers say the situation there should be improving.
08.45 - The A970 at Gulberwick is affected, as is the Trondra and Burra road (B9074) on the Scalloway side of the Trondra bridge, and the Black Gaet.
Anderson High Pupils only - no school buses from any area south of Brindister will run. If the road is cleared later in the morning and pupils get to the school via their own transport, a bus will take them home from the school at the end of the day.
The Council’s roads department is assessing the situation.
